What are varicose veins and red spots?
Spider veins are small, dilated veins that appear on the surface of the skin, often red, blue, or purple. They are usually visible on the legs and face. Unlike varicose veins, which are larger, swollen veins, spider veins are finer and shallower. They can be caused by various factors, such as genetics, sun exposure, hormonal fluctuations, or prolonged pressure on the legs.
Red spots , also called cherry angiomas or cherry angiomas, are small, bright red skin growths caused by a dilated blood vessel. They typically appear on the torso, arms, and legs, and are more common with age. These spots are benign and usually cause no symptoms, although they can be cosmetically bothersome for some people.
Examples of varicose veins
Facial varicose veins
These small dilated veins often appear on the cheeks and nose. They can be caused by sun exposure, hormonal changes, or genetics.
Varicose veins of the legs
They are usually found on the thighs, calves and ankles. They can appear as networks of small red or blue veins, often visible through the skin.
Spiderweb-shaped varicose veins
This type of varicose vein manifests as a network of fine, branching veins that resemble a spider web. They are often red or blue and are visible under the skin.
Lace-like varicose veins
These are smaller, more numerous varicose veins that form a lace-like pattern on the skin. They are often found on the legs.
Examples of red dots
Ruby angiomas
These are small red or purplish growths caused by dilated blood vessels. They are often visible on the trunk, arms, and legs and have a slightly raised appearance.
Telangiectasias
Although often mistaken for spider veins, these small red lesions can also appear on the skin. They result from the dilation of small blood vessels close to the skin's surface.
Small hemangiomas
These red spots are benign formations caused by a buildup of blood vessels under the skin. They may be present from birth or develop later in life.
ruby papules
These are small, round, red lesions that often appear on the trunk and arms, particularly with age. They are generally benign and do not require treatment, except for cosmetic reasons.
Treatment for varicose veins & red spots
Photorejuvenation
Spider veins : Photorejuvenation is effective in reducing the appearance of superficial spider veins, particularly those on the face and legs. Intense pulsed light targets dilated blood vessels, coagulates them, and causes them to gradually disappear. This treatment is generally non-invasive and requires several sessions for optimal results.
Red spots : Photorejuvenation can also help reduce red spots or cherry angiomas by targeting the dilated blood vessels under the skin. The intense pulsed light penetrates the skin and destroys the small blood vessels responsible for the red spots, making them less visible.
